The Russia 2018 world cup has come and gone with the French national team returning home with the prestigious global trophy the second time in their footballing history.
The French team made up of 19 immigrants among the 23 required players, made it to the final in Moscow after topping their group C and winning all their 9 matches except the avoidable draw with Denmark in their final group game. They won Argentina, Uruguay and Belgium to guarantee them a space in the just concluded grand finale.
Croatia on the other hand had won their group D with a total of 9 points, giving them 100% group win rate and would then defeat Denmark, Russia and England in the round of 16, Quarter Final and Semi final respectfully.
This is France’s 3rd world cup final in 2 decades, winning the 1998, 2018 competition and losing out in the 2006 final to Italy on penalties while Croatia just struggled to feature in their first ever world cup final becoming the 13 different nations and 10th European country in the final.
France went ahead to take the lead through Antoine Griezmann freekick which deflected Madzukic into the box to give France the early lead in the 19th minute with a lone equalizer from Perisicc in the 28th minute into the match.
The VAR controversially came into play in the 38th minute to award a penalty to France which was calmly converted by Antoine Griezmann.
A goal from Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe in the 58th and 64th minute respectfully secured the French with their 2nd Global trophy in the space of two decades.
An avoidable error from Hugo Lloris would later earn would Mario Mandzukic his 2nd goal of the night having taking active part in the opening goal for France.
